(Washington DC, Shtëpia e Bardhë, 07. 03. 2013) – Me 6 mas 2013, “Organizing for Action (OFA)” (Organizimi për Aksion) mbajti përmbledhjen e politikës (policy briefing) rreth agjendës të President Obamës dhe analizoi si kriza fiskale ndikon komunitetin amerikan. Jam pjesëmarëse e këtyre takimeve javore, çdo të mërkurë, me stafin e administratës së Obamës, zyrtarë politikë dhe këshilltarë të Shtëpisë së Bardhe. OFA është një iniciativë e re e Presidentit për të mobilizuar popullatën për reformë politike në Amerikë, nën drejtim të Jon Carson. Më parë, Obama for America (Obama për Amerikën) krijuar nga Komiteti Nacional Demokratik (National Democratic Committee) mbante këtë përgjegjësi. Si drejtoreshë në të dyja fushatat presidenciale të z. Obama, në 2008 dhe 2012 jam e ftuar në takime zyrtare, ceremoni dhe organizime të ndryshme nga Shtëpia e Bardhë dhe Partia Demokratike.
Kriza Fiskale dhe mospajtimi në Kongresin Amerikan
Mospajtimi në kongresin amerikan vjen nga ekstermistë të partisë republikane që po shtyjnë këtë parti të mos miratojë planin e Presidentit Obama, i cili është në mbrojte të shtresës së mesme punëtore. Seria e shkurtimeve buxhetore të qeverisë federale të Amerikës, krijon rrezik për nivelin lokal në shtete të ndryshme. Për qyetarët e New Yorkut dhe shqiptaro-amerikanët në këtë shtet, shkurtimi buxhetor vetëm këtë vit planifikon këto masa:
1. 70,000 studentë humbasin përkrahje edukimi,
2. 120 shkolla humbasin fonde nga shteti,
3. $108,000,000 shkurtim në operacionet ushtarake,
4. $1,447,000 shkurtim në përkrahje/ushqim për të varfërit, sëmurët dhe moshuarit,
5. $12,869,000 shkurtim në fonde për ajër dhe ujë të pastër,
6. 7,170 më pak fëmijë do marrin vaksina,
7. Mbi 100,000 do mbeten pa strehë nga heqja e programeve për strehim. (Statistikat nga Shtëpia e Bardhë).

Gjatë përmbledhjes legjislative me 6 mars 2013 në orën 8, kryebashkiaku i Minneapolis, R.T. Rybak (Minneapolis Mayor) theksoi nevojën për Kongresin amerikan të veprojë për një zgjedhje të balancuar për buxhetin:
“Jemi kthyer në lojërat politike sepse disa njerëz nuk duan ta pranojnë faktin që Obama është President për herë të dytë. Çfarëdo lloj propozimi të bëjë Obama, ato janë kundra. Shkurtimet buxhertore janë ekstreme, ato ndikojnë në jetën e qytetarit dhe kanë impakt afatgjatë. Kjo do të thotë që më shumë studentë do lejnë universitetin sepse nuk kanë përkrahje financiare dhe shumë familjet do hyjnë në asistencë shtetërore,” tha kryebashkiaku R.T. Rybak, gjatë takimit me 6 mars 2013.
Kongresi duhet të veprojë në përkahje të propozimit dhe planit të Presidentit Obama. Shkurtimet buxhetore kanë ndikime shkatërruese në nivelin mikro dhe makro si një New York dhe në shtete të tjera të Amerikës. Gjatë javës së 18 marsit 2013, Shtëpia e Bardhë planifikon të mbajë konferenca shtypi dhe organizime zyrtare për të disktuar rrezikun e krizës fiskale. Qytetarët e New Yorkut mund të telefonojnë Kongresin Amerikan tek numri 202.224. 3121 për t’i kërkuar senatorëve dhe kongresmenëve të tyre për të ndaluar këto shkurtime dhe përkrahur planin e President Obamës.
Biseda telefonike nga Presidenti pas Fjalimit para Kongresit Amerikan
Me 12 shkurt 2013 mora ftesë nga David Simas, Këshilltar i Lartë i Shtëpisë së Bardhë (Deputy Senior Advisor of The White House) për të ndjekur fjalimin e Presidenti Obama para Kongresit amerikan (The State of the Union Address). Në orën 9 në mbrëmje Presidenti Obama hartoi prioritetet dhe planin e tij për punësim, shëndetësi, energji, imigracion, etj.
Në orën 10:30 mora një telefonatë nga President Obama, organizuar nga drejtori Jon Carson (Executive Director of OFA) dhe drejtoresha Sara Alamin, (National Organizing Director). Ishte një nder i veçantë të merrja telefonatën e parë që Presidenti Obama bëri pas fjalimit para Kongresit Amerikan, gjatë rrugës për në Shtëpin e Bardhë. Kjo ishte telefonat e tretë nga presidenti që kam marrë, dy të parat ishin në 2008 dhe 2012 për të më falenderuar mua dhe ekipit tim që udhëhiqja gjatë fushatës së tij elektorale. Në telefonatën e 12 shkurtit 2013 Presidenti tha:
“Dua të kujtoj njerëz si ju që do më përkrahin të realizoj vizionin për të cilin fola sonte. Kjo është telefonata e parë që po bëj gjatë rrugës për në Shtëpi të Bardhë. Duhet të jemi të organizuar dhe punojmë së bashku. Duhet të bëjmë ndryshime. Do jetë e vështirë dhe do ketë rezistencë në Kongres. Por kjo nuk është për mua, është për ne (si komb). Suksesi jonë varet nëse punojmë së bashku, marrim përgjegjësi, krijojmë një kapitull të fortë, aktivizohemi dhe bëjmë përpjekje. Nuk do mund ta arrija këtë pa ju, dhe nuk mund ta mbaroj dot punën pa ju,” tha President Obama gjatë bisedës telefonike, pas fjalimit që ai bëri para Kongresit Amerikan.

A BALANCED BUDGET APPROACH: A CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT

Washington DC, White House – On March 6, 2013 Organizing for Action (OFA) hosted a Policy Briefing to give an update to the President Obama’s agenda and how the issues affect the local community. I have been part of the weekly legislative updates that occur every Wednesday, along with other administration top officials, staff and Obama supporters. OFA is a newly created mobilizing force to implement the President’s proposed policy reform under the direction of Jon Carson. Prior to that, Obama for America created by the National Democratic Committee, where I served in leadership director’s roles in both 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns, served as the community project to push for Obama legislative issues.
What is a sequester? How will it affect my state, New York?
The series of automatic cuts, known as the sequester poses a real threat at the local level for New York. The President is willing to compromise and offers a moderate plan, however the Congress is not meeting him halfway due to some extreme Republicans, who are hijacking the views of the entire Republican party. President Obama is working with the Congress to reduce the deficit by $2.5 trillion and has put forth a balanced plan to reduce it to $4 trillion in total.

According to the White House, this year alone the sequestration impact for New York means:
1. 70,000 students will lose access to support programs and special education,
2. 4,150 low-income students will lose work study jobs to help pay for college,
3. 120 schools will lose funding to help disadvantaged students; around 4,520 fewer low income students in New York would receive aid to help them finance the costs of college and around 4,150 fewer students will get work-study jobs, that help them pay for college,
5. $108,000,000 cut in Army base operation funding,
$1,447,000 cut in funding that provides meals for sick and homebound seniors,
6. 1,600 victims of domestic violence will lose access to support services,
7. $12,869,000 cut in funding to ensure clean air and water and prevent pollution,
8. 7,170 fewer children will get vaccines for diseases like measles and whooping cough,
9. $1,070,000 cut in funding for response to threats like infectious diseases and natural disasters,
10. More than 100,000 formerly homeless people, including veterans, would be removed from their current housing and emergency shelter programs, putting them at risk of returning to the streets. (White House Statistics).
During the legislative update for the Policy briefing explaining the President’s agenda held on 6 March 2013, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak stressed the need for the Congress to act on a balanced approach to the budget:
“We are back to the political game because some people can’t get the fact that Obama is the president, no matter what he proposes they are against it. The extreme budget cuts affect real people’s lives. They affect primarily things that are structural and will have a long term impact. This means students will drop out of college and families will go on public assistance due to childcare cuts.” (Mayor R.T. Rybak, March 6, 2013 Policy Briefing).
The Congress needs to act on Obama’s proposed plan and take the more balanced approach. These cuts will have devastating impact on both the micro and macro level in New York and across the nation. During the week of March 18th the White House will hold a series of press conferences and community events that highlight these budget cuts. I encourage everyone to call your member of Congress at the congressional switchboard phone number 202.224. 3121 to demand an end to the sequester and vote in favor of the President’s plan to avoid this fiscal crisis.
State of the Union Address: A phone call from the President
On February 12, 2013 I received an invitation from David Simas, Deputy Senior Advisor of The White House for the State of the Union Address. At 9:00 pm President Obama laid out for the nation his policy priorities such as new jobs and investments, health care, energy, comprehensive immigration reform, etc. At 10:30 pm I received a phone call from the President organized by Jon Carson (Executive Director of OFA), and Sara Alamin, (National Organizing Director). It was an honor to receive the first call President Barak Obama made on his way to the White House after he delivered his incredibly inspiring State to the Union Address Speech. President Obama stated on the phone:
“I want to remember people like you who will help us realize the vision I talked about tonight. This is the first phone call I am making on the way to the White House. We have got to get organized and work together. We are going to have to make the change. It will be tough and there will be resistance in Congress. This is not about me, it’s about us. Our success depends on when we work together, take responsibility, build a strong chapter, make sustained efforts and get activated. We couldn’t achieve it without you, I cannot finish the job without you!” stated President Barack Obama on the phone call, following the State of the Union Address, on February 12, 2013.
